The HealthStar Consortium is a diversified group of institutions with a comprehensive range of public health, medical and related capabilities. Medical Service Corporation International (MSCI), the Managing Contractor for HealthStar, is a private sector health development company founded in 1973. For 32 years, MSCI has implemented more than 45 long-term health projects and 250 short-term projects in the United States and 60 countries worldwide. Sponsors and/or participating partners for MSCI projects have included USAID, The World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the African Development Bank, UNFPA, WHO, the Centers for Disease Control, and private firms such as Mobil, Exxon, Ciba-Geigy, and Glaxo-Wellcome. Current assignments include HIV/AIDS programs with 20 C/FBOs in Haiti, Mozambique, and Malawi, a tuberculosis treatment and control program in Georgia, an anti-trafficking program in Sierra Leone and Liberia, and a health sector reform program in Tanzania.
Under previous Health IQC Contracts, the ten-year Vector Borne Disease Control Project, and related contracts and grants, MSCI has completed more than 500 short-term assignments with its own staff and contingent hire employees. For this IQC, MSCI has assembled a core group of organizations and individuals with a broad range of public health, infectious disease, MCH, population/FP, and HIV/AIDS capabilities. Thus, MSCI can offer USAID and its missions access to some of the top medical and healthcare expertise in the United States.
